The Sheriff is elected by the citizens every four years.  She is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the county and the leader who manages and guides all aspects of the Sheriff's Office.  She is directly responsible to every citizen of Pitt County.

Chauncey Congleton, Chief of Investigations/Administration

Chiefs (sometimes known as Under-Sheriffs) are appointed by the Sheriff and are second in the chain of command of the Sheriff's Office and assigned by division.  Chiefs command a division comprised of various functional units.  Chief Congleton is Chief of the Investigations/Administration Division.
