Citizens Academy

Citizens Academy IIThe Citizens Academy is an interactive program designed to provide Pitt County citizens the opportunity to become acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.

In a classroom setting, often enhanced with field trips and tours, participants are given a “hands-on” experience in learning. Citizens will explore various aspects of law enforcement, including Narcotics, Investigations, a mock trial, processing a crime scene as well as a tour of the Pitt County Detention Center. Each class provides insight into the challenging tasks Deputy Sheriffs and Investigators face on a daily basis.

The next Citizen’s Academy will start in the fall of 2013.

Participation in the academy requires an 10 week commitment. Classes will be held weekly on Tuesday nights from 6:30 p.m.— 8:30 p.m. with a Graduation ceremony on the final night. There is no fee for the academy and participation is limited to 25 citizens per class. Participants must be 18 or older. The class is not for any certification purposes, but rather informational in nature and provides an opportunity for learning and positive interaction between our law enforcement professionals and the citizens we serve.
