Agencies Partner To Solve Crime

Unsolved hit and run featured in new segment of “90 Seconds to Justice”

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Pitt County Office of Public Information, has released a new, “90 Seconds to Justice” video.

This new broadcast features the unsolved hit and run fatality that occurred in the early morning of August 18. Pitt Community College student, Austin Baeza, 20, of Mooresville was found on NC 33 East near Memorial Drive. The NCSHP and Pitt County CrimeStoppers are asking for information from the public in solving this case. The video can be viewed on the sheriff’s office YouTube Channel or at

A Candle Light Vigil in memory of that fatal night will be held at the crash site on Thursday, September 20 at 7p.m.. This grieving family hopes to keep Austin's memory alive and encourage people to come forward with any information.

The vehicle involved in the incident was possibly a Chrysler (Jeep, Dodge, and Plymouth) product sustaining damage to the front end headlight area. It may also be missing a mirror or antenna.

In the past few months, this is the second hit & run incident which has occurred in Pitt County resulting in serious injury or death to a person.  The other case involved a family crossing Memorial Drive near the Waffle House; this case is being investigated by the Greenville Police Department.

Someone knows something in each of the cases. Perhaps they have seen unexplained damages on a friend or family member’s vehicle. Perhaps they have heard who is responsible. If you have information, please call CrimeStoppers at 757-7777 and help these families find justice.
