Five Arrests in Breaking and Entering, Safecracking Ring

A rash of breaking and entering and safecracking burglaries in Pitt County businesses has led to the arrests of five individuals.  Jeffrey Michael Phelps, DOB:  2/19/1988 of 611 Langley Drive, Grimesland;  David Allen Phelps, DOB:  9/22/1993 of 2320 Ivy Road, Greenville;  Brandt William Elis, Jr., DOB:  6/3/1988 of 1904 Rosemont Drive, Greenville;  Randy Stanley Dixon, DOB:  7/9/1990 of 1406 Birdneck Circle, Greenville;  and Jesus Daniel Ruiz, DOB:  8/16/1992 of 1326 Ellison Court, Greenville are now in the Pitt County Detention Center charged with multiple counts.

Investigators with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office seized fingerprints at an armed robbery on March 14 at 2675 Bruce Strickland Road, Bell Arthur.  In this armed robbery, guns were fired.  (See original release.)  The fingerprints matched evidence found at other breaking and entering and safe cracking robberies which were occurring across the county. 

Cases include JJ’s Country Store at 1330 Hwy. 903 N, Stokes on February 3 where cash, beer, soft drinks, a cigarette dispenser, a safe and other items were stolen.  T-Rays at 4551 NC 43 South, Greenville on March 10  where televisions, video machines and other equipment were stolen;  Players Retreat at 1641 Pactolus Hwy, Greenville in March 21 where a touch screen computer game system, a juke box, a card machine, a cigarette machine, a television, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages and money were stolen;  427 Convenient Mart at 1461 Old River Road, Greenville on March 28 where tobacco products and cash were stolen;  The Country Store at 3982 Mills Road, Greenville on March 28 where an air conditioner was stolen.

Jeffrey Michael Phelps is charged with Conspiracy to Break and Enter a Building with the Intent to Commit a Felony;  3 counts of Larceny; 4 counts of Breaking and Entering a Building;  4 counts of Breaking and Entering Coin Machines;  2 counts Breaking and Entering Paper Currency Machines;  3 counts of Larceny after Breaking and Entering;  Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon; 1st Degree Burglary;  Discharging a Weapon on Occupied Property;  Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon;  2 counts of Safecracking;  Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.  Phelps is under a $250,000 secured bond.

David Allen Phelps is charged with 3 counts of Breaking and Entering;  2 counts of Larceny after Breaking and Entering; 1st Degree Burglary;  Discharging a Weapon on Occupied Property;  Conspiracy to Commit Robbery;  Possession of Marijuana up to ½ oz.;  Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Phelps is under a $20,000 secured bond.

Elis is charged with Attempted 1st Degree Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon;  1st Degree Burglary; Discharging a Weapon on Occupied Property;  Conspiracy to Commit Robbery;  Possession of Marijuana up to ½ oz.;  Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Elis is under a $150,500 secured bond.

Dixon is charged with 5 counts of Breaking and Entering a Building;  4 counts of Breaking and Entering Coin Machines; Safecracking;  Conspiracy to Commit Breaking and Entering;  4 counts of Larceny after Breaking and Entering.  Dixon is under a $150,500 secured bond.

Ruiz is charged with  3 counts of Breaking and Entering;  2 counts of Breaking and Entering Coin Machines; Conspiracy to Commit Breaking and Entering;  2 counts of Larceny after Breaking and Entering.  Ruiz is under a $50,000 secured bond.

Further charges may be pending.
