Reports for the general public are free of charge.
Outstanding Civil/Criminal Papers
The cost of having a civil action processed by this department is $30.00 per defendant for North Carolina plaintiffs and $32.00 per defendant for out of state plaintiffs. We attempt to provide as much information to the public over the telephone as possible, particularly with civil process information. Information concerning outstanding criminal process on subjects is provided in person only, with proper identification.
Gun Purchase Permit
Hours: during business hours
Fee: $5.00 upon approval of the application
To obtain a gun permit, an application must be completed and submitted for a criminal background check. In order to be issued an application, you must present valid Identification with a picture I.D displaying your Pitt County address. The application process is approximately two weeks.
Concealed Carry Permit
Hours of Service: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 – 11am and 2 – 4pm.
Fee: $90 for the first time applicant. Renewals are $85.00.
First time applicants should bring the Certificate of Completion for the required Firearms Course and a North Carolina Driver’s License. Former military personnel need to provide a Certificate of Honorable Discharge or a copy of a DD-214. Applicants will be fingerprinted and this information submitted to the SBI for the issuance of the Concealed Carry Permit. You should expect the process to take as long as 90 days.
