Update

Church Air Condition-Copper Theft Ring

 

From July 15 until November 5, 2010, 17 incidents were reported of air conditions being stolen or stripped of copper in Pitt County.  During this time, deputies patrolled extra at churches, and the Special Operations Unit worked nights monitoring possible target churches.

 

On October 19, Crime Stoppers offered a $5,000 reward for information on any of these larcenies. On October 20, several local new agencies ran feature news stories on these cases.

 

On Friday, March 25 at 11:00 in the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office Conference Room, Sheriff Elks will release updated information regarding 15 of the 17 incidents.

 

Sheriff Elks stated, “A lot of hard work and man hours have been invested in solving these cases, and we are happy to report that it has paid off.”
